• Harald Hauswald underground

Between Hoenow and Alexanderplatz, on the Berlin underground line U5 a new train type is being tested. It has enlarged screens on which pictures by Harald Hauswald are shown hourly until the end of the month. The images give a preview of the paperback edition of Harald's book on Alexanderplatz which will be published this spring at the Jaron Verlag.

  • Harald Hauswald · FC Union Berlin

For 25 years, Harald Hauswald has documented the development of the East German football club FC Union Berlin. And that although he had never been that interested in football.

Chance brought Harald to his first Union game. A Western journalist had asked him for pictures of a match against the Dynamo Berlin. He photographed the players, the fans, the flags, but also the uniformed riot police that was lined up along the stands to prevent outrages. These local derbies were prone to escalate, they were about more than just football. The Stasi financed FC Dynamo was the declared enemy of FC Union, whose fanbase was a reservoir for dissenters and dissidents.

  • First Press · OSTKREUZ 1990

Clearing out the OSTKREUZ archive: The September 1990 issue of Photonews was already set out for trash, when a perceptive eye noticed the cover story "OSTKREUZ: An East Berlin photographer's agency". A portrait, written a few months after our founding, that describes a lot of what is still characteristic of OSTKREUZ: the desire to deal with the market without sacrificing one's individuality, the refusal of a consistent group style and the importance of personal concern when tackling a project.
The author Wolfgang Kil is still connected with OSTKREUZ. Most recently, he wrote an essay for Werner and Ute Mahler's book "Mona Lisas of the suburbs".

  • Pepa Hristova at NRW-Forum Duesseldorf

"Photography, so it would seem, has at last arrived in the free arts." This observation was the starting point for a large exhibition that the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf put together with advisors such as Andreas Gursky, F.C. Gundlach and Klaus Biesenbach.
The impacts of the digital revolution, a shift in focus from reportage photography to explicitly artistic photography, an orientation towards new forms of presentation - the exhibition makers discern important changes in photo art. They selected 40 artists who are setting the trend for the development of photography, including OSTKREUZ member Pepa Hristova.
