• Maurice Weiss and Phillip Roesler

Photographers who accompany a politician over years, collect, not only images, but also a host of interesting impressions, about his demeanor, his personality, his secrets. Too bad that they are so rarely asked about it.
Maurice Weiss has been photographing Phillip Rösler for quite some time. Here, he shows eight key images and tells how he witnesses the minister of economics, as a politician and as a person.

  • Joerg Brueggemann · Metalheads Video

Each OSTKREUZ photographer has a special project, which arises from a very personal interest and is very close to his heart. For Joerg Brueggemann it's the metalheads. For three years he has traveled the world and photographed heavy metal fans. In Argentina and Brazil, Indonesia and Malaysia, in Egypt and the United States, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The result are images that say a lot about how globalization works today: the same everywhere, but interpreted differently in every place.

Friday is Metalheadsday: the book at Gestalten-Verlag is released and an exhibition opens in Berlin.

  • Harald Hauswald & Nina Hagen

In the early seventies, Harald Hauswald works as a roadie for the GDR rock band "Bürkholzformation". After riots at a concert, the group is forbidden by the East German authorities in 1973. Keyboardist Michael Heubach founds a new band: "Automobil", with a certain Nina Hagen at the microphone. They become famous with a song about color films and Michaels forgetfulness. Four decades later, this song accompanies a slideshow with pictures of his former roadie Harald. Who is now an OSTKREUZ Photographer and carrier of the federal cross of merit.

  • Miscellaneous - Sibylle Fendt - "Gärtners Reise" [Gaertners Journey]

In late summer 2008 Sibylle Fendt accompanied the couple Lothar and Elke Gärtner on their trip through the Baltic states for 5 weeks. Two years before Elke had come down with Alzheimer's disease. Elke and Lothar had been travelling Europe with their caravan all their lives and they wanted to dare a last big voyage. Their trip started in Eppingen, Southern Germany (the native place of the couple), they went on to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. From there they went on by bus to Saint Petersburg, Russia and all the way back. The trip symbolizes a journey into unknown terrain in a twofold meaning.
