Julian Roeder · Exhibition at the Kunst-Werke

The face of violence has changed. It is now possible to kill without direct physical confrontation, without endangering one's own life. How does this affect emotions like killing inhibition, overreaction, sympathy or hatred? And what is the long-term impact of the use of weapons on the human psyche?

An exhibition at the Kunstwerke deals with these questions, featuring artists like Marina Abramovic, Julius von Bismarck or OSTKREUZ photographer Julian Roeder.

From 1981 to 1990, Harald Hauswald was the photographer of the deaconal Stephanus Foundation. He captured every day life in its institutions, the lives of the elderly, or the children and adults with disabilities. A few months ago, the Foundation gave us 500 films, all unpublished. We turned this into an exhibition.
For work such as this Harald Hauswald has just been nominated for the German Prize for Civic Engagement, which will be awarded in December.

Espen Eichhöfer - Freedom of Art

Aiming to save street photography in Germany Espen Eichhöfer set up a crowdfunding campaign called „Streetphotography now“. He says:

„I want to find out if street photography in an artistic context is legally secured in Germany. The judicial conditions for street photographers are vague and need a sharp definition.A passerby I photographed as she was crossing the street is suing me in the second instance. In the first instance the court of Berlin considered the claim for damages sustained on account of pain and suffering unfounded. However, the court adjudicated that I invaded her privacy. Both the complainant and I appealed the conviction.

In doing so I intend to obtain a landmark decision in order to create a clear legal situation for all artists in the future.“
