New postgraduate program at Ostkreuzschule

The first major work after graduation is often the most decisive in a photographer's career. Usually, it is also one of the hardest. Faced with the new demands of everyday work life, and without the guidance, the pressure and the continuous exchange that university had offered, it is not easy to muster the courage for a large independent project. This is where the new postgraduate program at Ostkreuzschule comes in. © Ute Mahler/OSTKREUZ

Starting in September 2011, it creates a space for young photographers to work regularly and intensively on a new major project. They gather every three months for three days and work under the guidance of two renowned photographers who both have extensive experience in teaching photography: OSTKREUZ photographer Ute Mahler, and Robert Lyons from the University of Hartford. The small group will lead a lively dialogue about photography and the resulting images, so that knowledge, skills and individual photographic language will be enhanced in exchange with others. According to the complex web of relations in which a photographer works, regular guests like curators, publishers or gallery owners will offer their point of view.

Classes will be held in English and German.
Email applications until May 31, 2011. Further information: http://www.ostkreuzschule.de/index.php?page=meisterkurs-2#english

Harald Hauswald - Film Premiere in Berlin

Scaffold Builder, boilerman and elevator mechanic. Unwelcome chronicler of the East German reality, who could show his pictures only in secrecy. East German Rock ´n´Roller who was kept under observation by the Stasi under the codename "operation cyclists". After the reunification OSTKREUZ co-founder and ultimately German Federal Cross of Merit carrier. Such a life definitely deserves celluloid!

The documentary, "Zwischen Liebe und Zorn - Harald Hauswald, Fotograf"by Jörg Herrmann gives insight into Harald´s eventful life. It also deals intensively with his photographic approach and lets companions as Werner Mahler or Lutz Rathenow have their say.

The film is shown for the first time this coming Thursday, 02/24 at 20:15 at the Babylon-Cinema (Rosa-Luxemburg-Str. 30). Harald Hauswald and the director will be present at the premiere.
