Our photographer Stephanie Steinkopf is awarded the Art Prize of Lotto Brandenburg. Congratulations!
The Jury says: Stephanie Steinkopf photographs give the protagonists and their life circumstances that take place beyond the mass media attention and common socio-political interests a visibility, on the other hand they keep a respectful distance.
Her work "Vogelfrei" will be on show at the Landtag Brandenburg until December 2015.

"Anniversaries" is a project that almost deserves its own anniversary. For over a decade, Marc Beckmann has been photographing anniversaries around the world, like the celebration of the Prague Spring, the 30th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, or the commemoration of the September 11 attacks in New York.

Since James Watt's steam engine a lot has happened, we are now in in the middle of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The physical world blends with the digital world. The Entrepreneur Award 4.0 invited international photographers to present their views on the so-called industry 4.0. Results can now be seen at an exhibition in Baden-Württemberg, including Jörg Brüggemann's images of the Berlin start-up scene.

In the old days, little boys used to play with toy soldiers. Today, the US Army and ISIS are recruiting via video games and the gaming industry is hiring ex-militaries as consultants. War does not only inspire horror, but also a certain fascination, especially in young men.
The Bethanien dedicates its latest exhibition to the aesthetics of weapons and the gamification of war. It features Julian Röder who worked on governmental violence for years.

Still, you might as well think of another city. And so the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts is now presenting OSTKREUZ photographs on the fall of the Berlin Wall. Maurice Weiss shows the Upheavals after November 9, 1989. Werner and Ute Mahler traveled along the former Iron Curtain, "where the world was to end".

Harald Hauswald photographed artists, punks and dissidents in the GDR moving, about on the edge of the republic. A quarter-century later, he is a guest at the alledgedly highest photo festival in the world. The "Nuit de la photo" shows his images at the top of the Swiss mountains.

Aiming to save street photography in Germany Espen Eichhöfer set up a crowdfunding campaign called „Streetphotography now“. He says:

 „I want to find out if street photography in an artistic context is legally secured in Germany. The judicial conditions for street photographers are vague and need a sharp definition.A passerby I photographed as she was crossing the street is suing me in the second instance. In the first instance the court of Berlin considered the claim for damages sustained on account of pain and suffering unfounded. However, the court adjudicated that I invaded her privacy. Both the complainant and I appealed the conviction.

 In doing so I intend to obtain a landmark decision in order to create a clear legal situation for all artists in the future.“

The New Yorker selects Ute Mahler's "Zusammenleben" under the "Fourteen photo books of 2014".

The French magazine "The Eyes" dedicates its next edition to Berlin and publishes an OSTKREUZ special with a text by Matthias Harder. The magazine is presented at the Martin-Gropius-Bau, followed by a panel with among others Maurice Weiss, Marc Beckmann and the curator of the European Month of Photography.
