In our newest group project, the OSTKREUZ photographers tell stories about borders. In 17 individual positions they explore territorial, social and ethical boundaries - in Berlin, around the world and on their own body.
Our exhibition is spending the summer in Dresden. On 16 May „On Borders" opens at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum with a speech given by Matthias Flügge.

When you think of Harald Hauswald pictures, you mostly think in black and white. The extent of his color archive surprised Harald himself when he sighted images of the late GDR. He found so many colored treasures that now the first Harald Harald Hauswald book in color has been published by Lehmstedt Verlag.

He has one of the most widely recognized faces in the world. Portraits of Karl Marx' bearded head have been swarming art, culture and advertising since one and a half centuries. An exhibition at Marx hometown Trier now brings together the most important images. Including one, in which the famous beard is obscured by a cloud: Sibylle Bergemann's Marx-Engels monument in front of the sculptor's workshop.

Three is not necessarily the first number that comes to mind when one thinks of portraits. Trios give very charming photo opportunities though, as shows an exhibition in Berlin. It features portraits of three by Henri Cartier-Bresson, August Sander or Lee Friedlander and also by Sibylle Bergemann.

In northern Albania, families who have lost their male patriarch can name a woman from the family to take his place. She vows to keep her virginity forever and starts dressing, working and living like a man. Over the years, she merges so much with her role that she is outside the family no longer recognized as a woman.
Pepa Hristova visited the last men-women in Europe. Her series Sworn Virgins is now published as a book by Kehrer Verlag, edited by F. C. Gundlach. The collectors edition contains, in addition to the book, two prints.

Right in the turmoil of the Arab revolutions, Joerg Brueggemann, Tobias Kruse and Maurice Weiss ventured to North Africa. What they have seen, they now show in an exhibition at the Latitudes Festival in Spain.
