When you see an exhibition hanging on the walls you often have no conception of long it has been silently prepared. Over two years we have been busy with our new joint project and in November it is finally time: The exhibition opens at the Haus der Kulturen in Berlin and the catalog is published at Hatje Cantz.
In the meantime, our photographers have gone around the world, in search of borders, that are important today. They were present when a new state was created in the desert, they have visited a city of walls and crossed an island that lies in two countries. They have ventured to a place that catches those who can not fall lower and where the world was once over, they found a young forest. In different places, in their past and on their own bodies, they have explored various visible and invisible boundaries.

The crooked house in Wernigerode has been standing since the 14th Century, but only since spring it hosts a photography museum. Tobias Kruse is thus one of the first artists who exhibits there. As of early August, he shows his series Into the Sun, for which he ventured to Lloret de Mar in the midst of a mob of partying teenagers.

Once a year, heavy metal fans from all over the world gather at the festival in Wacken, North Germany. Maybe this time they will see a few familiar faces in the Metalheads exhibition at the Art Tent. For this project, Joerg Brueggemann photographed metal fans around the globe. Of course also in Wacken.

OSTKREUZ and the theatre are linked by a long history. Our founding members celebrated in GDR times with Heiner Mueller, Sibylle Bergemann accompanied the Ramba Ramba ensemble for years and with the actors portraits in our archive we could fill a couple of exhibits.
Julian Roeder and Heinrich Voelkel continue this tradition and take photos for the State Theatre in Mainz. The play time book with their pictures hast just won the renowned red

Sylt in Berlin. For the beginning of summer, the Willy-Brandt-Haus exhibits pictures of the mythical North Sea island. Robert Lebeck shows Sylt in the 60s, Peter Bialobrzeski merges several coast photos into one, and Joerg Brueggemann focuses on the people who work, while all others are basking in the sun: the lifeguards.

ulian Roeder has won the Lead Awards silver medal in the category documentary photography. OSTKREUZ photographers Sibylle Bergemann, Tobias Kruse and Frank Schinski have also been awarded. They are all represented in the Lead Awards exhibition at the Hamburg Deichtorhallen. "Visual Leader 2012"

Our group project Ostzeit (eastern time) shows everyday life in the GDR - the housing in the P2 prefab buildings, the first of May parades, the cohesion in a Thuringian village. Now the exhibition goes to Poland, a country that has experienced its own "Ostzeit".

OSTKREUZ has already produced its third generation, the year of the agency's foundation some of our photographers were still in primary school. Thursday is "Nachtschicht" - the long night of the open design studios in Berlin. OSTKREUZ photographer Dawin Meckel shows his series „Übercity“ at the new AMBIVALENZ Showroom.

The Vienna Photography Gallery "Westlicht" is getting a sister: "Ostlicht" opens in June in the premises of a former bread factory. The first exhibition is about the time between dusk and dawn: the dreams, the darkness, the going out, the sleep and the loneliness, the crime, the sex and the silence.

Black and white photography is much more abstract than color photography and that is what makes it so timeless. Our colorful world is here a simple light and shade, it is reduced to finest gray tones.
The "Stadtmuseum Hofheim" presents an exhibition with black and white photographs by artists of the last hundred years. On one side of the generational spectrum are Marta Hoepffner and Robert Häusser, on the other side Martin Brockhoff and Marcin Nowicki. The Berlin newspaper Morgenpost ad campaign with photos by Dawin Meckel won a prize from the Art Directors Club. The ADC Price is given every year and is considered one of the most important awards in the advertising industry.

Pictures covering 50 years of youth culture are shown in the exhibition "Forever Young". From the German Historical Museum in Berlin the show now travels to Bonn. It presents works from the awardees of five decades German "Jugendfotopreis". Amongst them OSTKREUZ photographer Julian Roeder, winner in 2002.

For three years, Joerg Brueggemann photographed metal fans around the globe. "Metalheads: The Global Brotherhood" is now being published in a special edition limited to 20 copies. The edition box includes the book signed by the artist, a print with the "80th Thrash Metal Fan", a Metalheads-Patch and a T-shirt with the Metalheadslogo, probably the smartest M that is curently around.

Linn Schroeder has been awarded the European Photo Exhibition Award as one out of 12 photographers. The awardees worked on photo essays on European issues, which are shown in May at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. Linn Schroeder will present her new series SOMEWHERE HERE. The work will then move to Paris in autumn 2012 (during Paris Photo), followed by Lucca in November 2012 (at Lucca Photo Fest) and finally Oslo in March 2013 (Nobel Peace Center). „European Photo Exhibition Award"

Financial crisis and political upheavals, technological revolutions and increasing complexity of everyday life: everything is changing and there is no end in sight. Of course, this leaves traces in current photography and these are the theme of the 7th Darmstadt Days of Photography.
At the symposium, our office manager Betty Fink talks about the OSTKREUZ principles and how the agency deals with hard times. Julian Roeder gives a talk about his work and shows pictures of his SUMMITS at the main exhibition.
