Throughhout their common life they had traveled Europe with a caravan. In the summer of 2008 Lothar Gärtner decided to dare a last great journey with his wife Elke. Two years earlier, Elke had come down with Alzheimer's disease.
Sibylle Fendt photographed Lothar and Elke, first in their home before she accompanied the couple on their last trip from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to St. Petersburg. In restrained yet intimate photographs Sibylle Fendt describes the story of love, drifting apart and coming back together and of disappearance.

For their feature „Das Vorspiel“ journalist Carolin Pirich and OSTKREUZ photographer Tobias Kruse have been awarded the Hansel-Mieth-Preis 2012. The award is given annually for ambitious text and image reports in German print media.

The International Biennial of Photography and Visual Arts in Liege is this year devoted to a topic that everyone cares about: love. In the main exhibition "Only you only me" Sibylle Fendt's "Gärtner's Voyage" is shown. "Only you only me"

Heavy Metal fans now exist all over the world, but they are nowhere the same. For three years, Joerg Brueggemann traveled the world and photographed this globalized youth movement: long-haired northern Europeans with fur vests, head banging Egyptian girls in headscarves or Indonesian metalheads at underground concerts.
The Gestalten Verlag publishes the project as a book and shows selected images at its gallery. The books can now be ordered on OSTKREUZ Store.

Between Hoenow and Alexanderplatz, on the Berlin underground line U5 a new train type is being tested. It has enlarged screens on which pictures by Harald Hauswald are shown hourly until the end of the month. The images give a preview of the paperback edition of Harald's book on Alexanderplatz which will be published this spring at the Jaron Verlag.

Julian Roeder's feature "Weapons for Arabia" is shortlisted for the Henri Nannen Preis 2012, the most important media award in Germany.
He photographed the biggest arms fair in the Middle East which took place while the Arabic liberation movements were in full swing.

"Photography, so it would seem, has at last arrived in the free arts." This observation was the starting point for a large exhibition that the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf put together with advisors such as Andreas Gursky, F.C. Gundlach and Klaus Biesenbach.
The impacts of the digital revolution, a shift in focus from reportage photography to explicitly artistic photography, an orientation towards new forms of presentation - the exhibition makers discern important changes in photo art. They selected 40 artists who are setting the trend for the development of photography, including OSTKREUZ member Pepa Hristova.

6000 visitors for OSTZEIT at the art museum Dieselkraftwerk, our group exhibition was last year's most successful exhibition in Cottbus.

OSTZEIT tells Stories from a vanished Country. Sibylle Bergemann, Ute and Werner Mahler and Harald Hauswald present their view on life, work and the people in the GDR.
The exhibition's next station will be Krakow.

Julian Roeder's solo exhibition can be seen for another two weeks. It displays his pictures of the trade fairs, the anti-globalization protests and the arms fair in Abu Dhabi. At the closing event, he will be speaking about his work.

An exhibition at Berlin's Guardini gallery shows pictures by Julian Roeder from three different groups of works.
In The Summits Julian Roeder documented last decade's anti-globalization movements and photographed the protests at G8 and EU summits. World of Warfare deals with the latest arms fair in Abu Dhabi, where military equipment of all kinds was presented - just as the Arab Spring was in full bloom. RambaZamba is a special theater, the ensemble consists mainly of people with so-called mental retardation. For years, Sibylle Bergemann accompanied the actors in their rehearsals, shyly at first, then with a lot of empathy and a feeling for the special magic of their work.

An exhibition in Berlin now gathers the images of the resulting long-term study, well-known classics like the Woyzeck Series alongside unreleased photos, new prints as well as analog hand proofs and polaroid originals.

The Berlin based gallery Dittrich & Schlechtriem shows the „Mona Lisas of the suburbs“ by Werner and Ute Mahler. We invite you to the opening on friday. In their work „Mona Lisas of the suburbs“ Werner and Ute Mahler deal with the "in between", on a temporal as well as on a spatial level. They show girls in Europe's suburbs, who are in a state of transition: between city and countryside, between being a child and being a woman. After forty years of marriage and individual careers in photography this is their first collaborative project. The book accompanying the exhibition has recently been published by Meier and Mueller with a print run limited to 500 copies.
